POINTE-CLAIRE, QC — MAY 22, 2026 — In a powerful demonstration of local unity and global solidarity, UniAction hosted an exclusive cocktail reception at Pointe-Claire City Hall. The event officially commemorated the United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, bringing together community leaders, municipal officials, and cultural advocates from across the West Island of Montreal.
Hosted in the presence of Pointe-Claire Mayor John Belvedere, the reception served as a vibrant platform to reinforce the essential role that intercultural dialogue plays in building sustainable, peaceful, and prosperous communities.
The evening highlighted the West Island’s unique cultural fabric, drawing a diverse delegation of leaders representing multiple cultural, faith-based, and community associations. The gathering focused heavily on community recognition, honoring the grassroots champions who actively bridge cultural divides and drive social cohesion across the region.
"True inclusion begins right here in our local communities, where daily interactions turn into meaningful bridges," said Thi Be Nguyen, Founder. "By gathering at City Hall today, we aren't just celebrating our differences—we are actively committing to a continuous dialogue. Cultural diversity is a driving force for societal development and mutual understanding, and seeing so many distinct West Island communities come together proves that unity is our greatest strength."
Mayor John Belvedere welcomed the delegates, emphasizing the city's ongoing dedication to fostering an inclusive environment where all residents can thrive and contribute to the community's collective future.
The UN World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, celebrated annually on May 21st, was established by the UN General Assembly to deepen our understanding of the values of cultural diversity and advance the goals of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. UniAction’s cocktail reception provided a local echo to this international mandate, proving that global harmony is rooted in municipal connection.
