December 18, 2024 - In celebration of International Migrants Day, UniAction is proud to announce its next documentary project: Generations. Currently in development, the feature-length documentary will explore the invisible threads that connect past, present, and future—through the voices and stories of families navigating cultural identity, memory, migration, and belonging.
With a powerful and timely focus, Generations sets out to recognize and honour the role of immigration in shaping Canada’s evolving identity through the experiences of multiple generations. From the sacrifices of first-generation newcomers to the hybrid identities of their children and grandchildren, the documentary offers a layered and compassionate portrait of how immigration continues to define the country’s social and cultural landscape.
“This film is about what we inherit—not just through blood, but through stories, silences, traditions, and the unspoken,” says Thi Be Nguyen. “Generations aims to reflect the beauty and tension of being rooted in multiple worlds.”
The documentary will feature interviews, archival materials and intimate portraits, that reflect the evolving identities within families—particularly those shaped by displacement, exile, colonization, or hybrid cultural realities.
UniAction is working closely with community partners, cultural organizations, and local storytellers to ensure Generations reflects the diversity of voices across Canada. In keeping with its mandate of cultural diplomacy and social impact, the film will serve not only as an artistic expression but also as a tool for civic education and public dialogue.
Generations is currently slated for release in 2026, with plans for public screenings, intergenerational discussion circles, and school outreach initiatives.
As UniAction continues to amplify stories that matter, Generations promises to be a moving tribute to the immigrant journey—showing how identity, love, and belonging are passed down, redefined, and celebrated across generations.
