Montreal, May 30, 2018 — In celebration of its five-year journey promoting cultural diplomacy, education, and compassion-driven engagement, UniAction hosted a deeply meaningful conference titled “5 Years: Spirituality & Living Together in Peace.” Timed to highlight the International Day for Living Together in Peace on May 30, as recognized by the United Nations, the event brought together a remarkable group of spiritual leaders, changemakers, and cultural advocates.
A key highlight of the event was the honored presence and speech of Master Sufi Cheikh Khaled Bentounes, the visionary spiritual leader and initiator behind the United Nations’ official recognition of the International Day for Living Together in Peace. His inspiring words reminded all participants of the profound importance of forgiveness, unity, and human dignity in a world faced with deep divisions.
Held in a spirit of openness and inclusion, the conference served as both a milestone celebration and a platform for reflection. Through keynote presentations, cultural performances, and spiritual testimonies, participants explored how spiritual and ethical values—across all faiths and philosophies—can guide humanity toward empathy, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
“Spirituality is not a doctrine—it is a way of being in the world that calls us to love, to serve, and to recognize ourselves in one another,” said Thi Be Nguyen, Founder of UniAction. “As we mark five years of UniAction, and celebrate the International Day for Living Together in Peace, we recommit ourselves to building a more compassionate, inclusive world.”
This conference not only honored UniAction’s five years of action and impact, but also signaled its ongoing dedication to fostering international solidarity through culture, education, and human connection. By aligning the event with the UN-recognized International Day for Living Together in Peace, and welcoming the very instigator of that global initiative, UniAction reaffirmed its mission to inspire unity through diversity.
UniAction warmly thanks Master Sufi Cheikh Khaled Bentounes, all speakers, artists, and attendees, and the many partners and supporters who continue to believe in peace through action.
